Primaryschool De Plataan 'Work in progress'

Transformation
De Plataan

Primary school De Plataan in a green residential area in Bennekom is located in a building from 1956-1957, with the architectural atmosphere of a village school. In 2022, the school faced the triple challenge of expanding the building, improving it internally and making it more sustainable. A daycare centre might be built in the building, but that was not yet certain. Mevrouw Meijer's research yielded three good and equivalent concepts, of which AtelierFront was offered the follow-up task.

In this design, the school will have a more compact shape with two wings and a connecting hall, which can be divided if desired. The new wing has an extra floor. Part of the existing school will be demolished. In technical terms: De Plataan will change from a 'corridor school' to a 'hall school'.

The outdoor space will also change shape. There will be a large square at the front, and a sheltered space for the youngest children at the back. If the daycare centre is not located in the building, the new wing can be realised in a shorter form.

The design is now being further developed
